In each edition of ✨Glow Getters, we highlight real women redefining beauty, balance, and success in their own way.

Carolyn Barter, a licensed massage therapist and owner of Medbery Inn & Spa in Ballston Spa, wears many hats. By day she tends to a busy spa, managing appointments, customers, and her staff. But after hours, Carolyn embraces a life full of travel, family gatherings, and even the sweet chaos of grandparenting. Her pace may be full, but she’s learned the power of slowing down.

From warm baths to relaxing rituals, Carolyn makes time for self-care. She swears by AVON’s Skin So Soft oils for a post-shower glow and takes their Bug Guard Plus with Picaridin whenever she travels, keeping pesky bites away without compromising on skincare. She recently shared with me how she’s learning to enjoy the moments between the hustle.

8 Questions with Carolyn – Massage Therapist, Business Owner & Beauty Enthusiast

1. What inspired you to become a massage therapist?

I’ve always believed in healing through touch. Helping people feel better, both physically and emotionally, just spoke to me.

2. What’s it like balancing ownership and hands-on massage work?

Rewarding and exhausting! Some days I’m doing deep tissue, then answering phones, then folding towels-but I wouldn’t trade it for anything— I love what I do.

3. What do you do to recharge after a busy day?

A warm bath with AVON’s Skin So Soft oils. I lock the door and pretend I’m at a five-star spa, even if it’s only 20 minutes.

4. I hear you love to travel, do you travel often?

Yes! I love quick weekend trips, and I always pack my Bug Guard Plus from AVON. It’s a lifesaver, especially outdoors.

5. What’s your biggest challenge running a spa?

Making time for myself. I have to schedule self-care just like a client appointment.

6. What’s something your clients might not know about you?

I’m a grandmother-and I love it! After a long day at work, cuddles with my grandchildren are the best therapy.

7. How do you relax with family?

We do simple things-dinner, bonfires, walks. It’s not about fancy plans, just being together.

8. What’s your self-care advice to other busy women?

Don’t wait for burnout. Pause, breathe, and light a candle. You’re worth the break.

As someone who understands the need for small escapes, I personally recommended Carolyn try the comforting LYRD Bonfire Candle and a soothing leg massage using the Clinicx Escin Gua Sha Cream. And let me tell you-she loved it. Carolyn reminds us that beauty doesn’t come from rushing—-it blooms in the pause.
